Aims
The aim of this topic is to:
- Optometry entry-level understanding on the required ocular examination for a variety of patient presentations
- Develop students critical thinking and understanding of the diagnosis management of eye disease, including therapeutics when required, to a standard defined by the optometry entry-level competencies
Learning outcomes
On completion of this topic you will be expected to be able to:
1.
Construct and perform a comprehensive eye examination, which has been tailored to the needs of the specific patient, to the level of OCANZ entry level competencies
2.
Critically appraise, with sound evidence based clinical reasoning, a challenging clinical case and professional issue
3.
Appraise the spectrum of eye and vision disorders, the clinical management and the evidence base that informs the management
4.
Demonstrate foundational competency as determined by OCANZ entry level competencies
5.
Demonstrate strategies for personal and professional leadership, lifelong learning, and resilience in working with health system challenges to cultural safety, including in partnership with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander health professionals and leaders
