Overview

This topic explores the knowledge, behaviours and attributes required to safely and effectively assess musculoskeletal presentations as a primary contact Physiotherapist.

Aims

This topic aims to develop students' abilities to discuss musculoskeletal and serious pathologies, plan and implement safe and evidence-based physiotherapy assessments for non-spinal and spinal musculoskeletal conditions. Students will demonstrate competence in recognizing circumstances outside their scope, collaborating with other health professionals, and developing collaborative goals. Additionally, students will learn to adapt assessment strategies for culturally diverse health consumers and employ effective communication strategies for client-focused approaches in various clinical populations within a musculoskeletal setting.

Learning outcomes

On completion of this topic you will be expected to be able to:

Discuss musculoskeletal and serious pathologies masquerading as musculoskeletal pathologies
2.
Plan and implement safe, effective, client focussed and evidence based physiotherapy assessments for clients presenting with non-spinal and spinal musculoskeletal conditions
3.
Demonstrate competence in recognising circumstances outside of scope in the assessment of musculoskeletal presentations
4.
Demonstrate competence in collaborating with other health professionals and key stakeholders in the assessment of musculoskeletal presentations
5.
Demonstrate ability to develop collaborative goals in the context of musculoskeletal presentations

Demonstrate ability to adapt assessment strategies according to a culturaly diverse range of health consumers in the context of musculoskeletal presentations
