The honours thesis is intended to promote the development of research capability including communication and technical skills through an in-depth investigation of a particular area under the guidance of a supervisor.  The thesis is not merely a large experimental exercise. The nature of the investigation will depend on the project itself but will include a literature search, the identification (in collaboration with the supervisor) of a suitable project, the planning and management of the project, the execution of the plan resulting in defensible results, the development and presentation of results and the production of a thesis embodying the methods and results of the project.  Other aspects which may be included in some projects include liaison with other researchers, industry practitioners and/or the community, either working on similar projects or with expertise required for the project.

Aims

The topic will provide students with an opportunity to undertake an individual research project. Students will apply their knowledge to complex problem, develop and implement an approach to solve it.

Learning outcomes

On completion of this topic you will be expected to be able to:

Undertake an individual research project
2.
Develop and justify a research question(s) or hypotheses based on prior research and/or theory
3.
Design and conduct a study to appropriately address a research question(s) (or to test hypotheses)
4.
Analyse and effectively synthesise research data and communicate research results/findings
