Overview

This topic provides experience in historical archaeological field methods. The topic contains some lecture and workshop content, but will mostly be directed towards teaching students in-depth practical recording, excavation and assessment skills necessary for historical archaeological research.

Aims

This topic aims to:

  • Develop recording, oral history and analytical skills associated with the practice of historical archaeology in Australia
  • Develop historical documentary research skills associated with the practice of historical archaeology
  • Improve understanding of the relationship between local communities, heritage and historical archaeology
  • Further develop students' understanding of ethical practice in Australian archaeology
