Aims
Students are required to undertake a period of full-time Cooperative Work Experience with a placement provider. During this period, students will perform a range of technical or research tasks to gain practical and work experience relevant to their course.
Each student is expected to:
- Actively participate and contribute to a biology-related project such as biological surveys, community education, scientific research, observational studies, and hypothesis testing.
- Understand the issues and operations of the placement organisation, and its role in biological research, conservation and/or education together with its responsibilities to government agencies, not-for-profit organisations, the community, and the general public
Learning outcomes
On completion of this topic you will be expected to be able to:
1.
Effectively manage and conclude biological project work within a research and/or community organisation.
2.
Integrate understanding of the structure and operation of research, conservation and/or education projects as part of a discipline relevant industry or field placement
3.
Identify and appraise the issues and operations of the placement organisation, and its role in research, conservation and/or education together with its responsibilities to government agencies, not-for-profit organisations, the community, and the general public
4.
Demonstrate effective interpersonal, oral and written communication across a range of technical, research and/or educational scenarios
5.
Demonstrate maturity in their own professional attitudes, and reconcile the obligations, responsibilities and actions of professional biologists with their own values
