Aims
This topic aims to:
- Identify the outline systems of work, legal aspects, general duties, overview of safety responsibilities, resolution of safety issues, incident, accident reporting, chemical safety and biological safety.
- Recognize the outline of the principal regulatory regimes that operate to regulate bioscience research both nationally and internationally
- Raise their awareness of the interface between bioscience and society
- Discuss the sources of diversity in ethical stand points, such as religion and culture and personal experience
Learning outcomes
On completion of this topic you will be expected to be able to:
1.
Develop knowledge of skills at Australian and major international intellectual property law regimes, biotechnology regulation relevant to biotechnology research, development and commercialization, and societal issues relating to biotechnology
2.
Identify the major national regulatory regimes relevant to bioscience research and commercialisation and how these contrast with those in other countries
3.
Adopt ethical reasoning to assume and defend a coherent position in relation to an ethical issue
4.
Develop teamwork, written and communication skills
