Aims
The aim is for students to understand the structure of the Australian economy and its performance in meeting various goals. Students should be able to analyse, evaluate and communicate important economic policy issues, such as government intervention, taxation, immigration, protection, wage regulations, foreign investment and the financial system.
Learning outcomes
On completion of this topic you will be expected to be able to:

Explain key terms and concepts commonly used in economics, including their definition and meaning, and the limitations in their use

Describe important historical trends in performance of the economy in key areas

Locate and use appropriately, key economic data, both past and current, gathered by relevant agencies

Explain the significant economic policy issues and debates in various aspects of the economy, including who the key stakeholders are and the perspectives they bring to the issues
5.
Analyse, evaluate and communicate arguments framed in an economic perspective, and be able to respond with your own view, framed in an appropriate manner
