Aims

This topic aims to:

  • Introduce students to criminological dimensions vis-a-vis cybercrime
  • Provide opportunity for students to develop open-source research skills
  • Introduce students to various cybercrimes, the actors involved, and how law enforcement investigates them
  • Appreciate the rapid social and technological changes that are ongoing due to changes in internet capabilities, shifts in technological adaptation, and how societies adopt those technologies to their lives

Learning outcomes

On completion of this topic you will be expected to be able to:

Explain and analyse the perpetration and victimisation of cyber-enabled and cyber-dependent crimes
2.
Examine and critically reflect upon the intricate connections between cybercrime and various social categories, including but not limited to race, sexuality, sex and gender identity, religion, and immigration status
3.
Conduct thorough research and effectively communicate findings, emphasizing a high standard of professionalism in both content and presentation
