Handbook

This topic assists directors, designers, and dramaturgs in building an ethically aware practice of both the aesthetics of live performance, and the collaborative processes involved in its creation. Students will interrogate the interplay between the ethics of representation and the ethics of practice, developing skills in managing complex intersectional identities in the rehearsal room and on stage. The topic considers issues such as representation and cultural appropriation, the power dynamics of the rehearsal room, respectful multi-stakeholder collaboration, and intersectional equity. Across each issue, students will be introduced to the ethics and cultural protocols of working with Indigenous collaborators, aesthetics, and processes.
