Aims

This topic aims:

  • to examine how to foster effective collaborative partnerships and explore advocacy principles and strategies for working with people with disabilities and significant people in their lives

Learning outcomes

On completion of this topic you will be expected to be able to:
1.
Identify, analyse and evaluate the role, purpose and practices surrounding various forms of advocacy with and for people with disability, including self-advocacy
2.
Apply advocacy principles and theoretical frameworks and concepts to working in collaborative partnerships with people with disability, family members and other stakeholders
3.
Examine the effect of having a family member with disability and considerations in the development of collaborative relationships with families, such as culture, family systems and family structure
4.
Identify and evaluate strategies and practices for positive collaborative partnerships with people with disability, family members, and other stakeholders to maximise quality of life
