In this topic students will refine their skills as a developmental educator through a 150 hour supervised placement in a disability setting. The topic will build on student’s critical and reflective practice and provide the opportunity to apply and build specialist skills in delivering therapeutic supports, including assessment and functional skills training to improve participation and independence in daily living skills of people with a disability.

Aims

This topic aims to further enhance student’s skills in assessment, report writing and therapeutic support, and develop relevant competencies as an entry-level developmental educator.

Learning outcomes

On completion of this topic you will be expected to be able to:

Integrate disability knowledge, skills and professional values as a developmental educator in a practice environment

Demonstrate effective person-centred and interprofessional practice

Demonstrate critical and reflective thinking processes to evaluate one’s own professional practice and performance

Acknowledge the importance of working in a culturally responsive and culturally safe way
