Aims
Develop professional competence in teaching students on the autism spectrum using evidence-based practices (EBPs). Pre-service teacher will reflect on their learning to support autistic students.
Learning outcomes
On completion of this topic you will be expected to be able to:
1.
Analyse current research and legislative requirements to cultivate inclusive classrooms
2.
Design classrooms based on principles of TEACCH Program
3.
Focus on structure, rules and routines, skill building, reinforcement and instructional plans for effective programming
4.
Apply knowledge of evidence-based practices (EBPs) to develop instructional structures to teach autistic students
5.
Create and enact instructional plans based on selected evidence-based practices (EBPs): Visual Supports (VS), Video Modelling (VM), Exercise (ECE) and incorporate supports plans with the use of Comprehensive Autism planning system (CAPS)
