Aims

This topic aims to:

  • Give pre-service teachers the opportunity to evidence their expert content knowledge, pedagogical content knowledge and highly effective classroom teaching and capacity to impact children’s learning
  • Guide pre-service teachers in how to incorporate documentation and assessment to inform their plan for children’s learning in the area of curriculum specialisation
  • Critically reflect on techniques to differentiate teaching and learning to ensure the engagement and participation of all children
  • Prepare pre-service teachers for the final Professional Experience where they will evidence how they make their expertise as curriculum specialists available to the site through teaching and learning and related professional activities

Learning outcomes

On completion of this topic you will be expected to be able to:
1.
Demonstrate expert knowledge in your curriculum specialisation through planning a progressive sequence of teaching and learning experiences which incorporate deep knowledge of content, discipline specific pedagogy and specialist teaching and learning
2.
Justify your choice of assessment methods in the learning process; assessment for learning, assessment as learning and assessment of learning
3.
Explain reasons for using chosen teaching and learning techniques to effectively differentiate to ensure the engagement and participation of all children in the curriculum
4.
Determine areas of further professional growth in the area of curriculum specialisation and how this may be achieved
