These understandings are applied in pre-service teachers' development and critical reflection on their role and responsibility as educational leaders in making research-informed quality improvements across all standards, and especially in pedagogical practice.
Aims
This topic is designed to:
- Assist pre-service teachers to bring their life experiences, educational and curriculum knowledge to bear on the investigation and review of contemporary educational and leadership issues
- Introduce pre-service teachers to procedures that can be used to critically analyse educational systems and selected contemporary educational and leadership issues
- Analyse the roles and responsibilities of a leader within an Early Childhood Birth-5 setting
- Reflect on their own knowledge and skill base and consider professional development priorities that will enable them to, as a future leader of an early childhood setting, play a critical role in that centre's provision of quality early childhood education for young children
Learning outcomes
On completion of this topic you will be expected to be able to:

articulate a personal professional philosophy of teaching and education by synthesising and critically evaluating relevant beliefs, knowledge and skills
2.
adopt their roles as beginning teachers through a formal presentation of how they meet expectations of the Teaching Performance Assessment.
3.
Critically reflect on and extend understanding and knowledge of educational research to make continuous quality improvements to professional practices.
4.
Develop professional judgement and vision in relation to leading and managing early childhood settings.
5.
Demonstrate a commitment to managing and leading ethically and professionally.
6.
Demonstrate knowledge and foundational skills that they, as future managers and leaders of early childhood settings require.
