Aims
This topic aims to:
- Develop pre-service teachers’ deep understanding of how to facilitate writing instruction that meets the diverse needs of learners.
- Enhance pre-service teachers’ analytical skills to evaluate written text samples and identify strengths and areas for improvement in student writing.
- Develop pre-service teachers’ ability to integrate writing instruction across learning areas, promoting interdisciplinary learning and student engagement, and discuss these plans with a range of audiences.
- To cultivate pre-service teachers’ capacity for action research, reflective practice, and ongoing professional growth in literacy instruction, ensuring decisions are informed by contemporary frameworks.
Learning outcomes
On completion of this topic you will be expected to be able to:

Evaluate written text samples at word, sentence and whole text levels using provided criteria and moderate assessments
2.
Justify evaluation of written text samples at word, sentence, and whole text levels by using meta-talk (talking about how you write) to provide constructive feedback
3.
Reflect, critically evaluate and make appropriate adjustments to instructional goals, plans, resources and multi-modal texts tailored to specific writing genres or linguistic features to develop writing based on an assessment, content area and/or curriculum level
4.
Critique theoretical frameworks and evidence-informed instructional approaches to achieve learning outcomes aligned with primary English Curriculum
5.
Engage in action research, reflection, and plan professional development to refine your literacy instruction and improve children and young people's outcomes, ensuring decisions are informed by evidence-based practices and contemporary frameworks
