The topic explores current theoretical frameworks and teaching practice in Australia, through inter-disciplinary and Indigenous knowledge systems. Students will develop a deeper understanding of the complexities Indigenous peoples experience in the Australian education system. The topic will assist students to make an ongoing commitment to becoming a critical, reflexive and more effective teacher of Indigenous students.

Aims
This topic provides pre-service teachers with an awareness of race, positionality, and critical Indigenous pedagogical tools to support them to embed Indigenous histories and culture.
Learning outcomes
On completion of this topic you will be expected to be able to:

Investigate and reflect on how race relations in Australia informs own positioning and how these ideas shape knowledge of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples

Identify, develop, and implement critical Indigenous pedagogical approaches supportive of Indigenous and non-Indigenous children and young people

Select, understand and critically analyse resources for implementation within relevant curriculum frameworks
4.
Implement skills in working collaboratively
