Overview

The topic is designed for educators working in any level of education. It will introduce participants to the theory and practice of educative assessment and examine traditional and innovative practices. Political, cultural, and social influences on education and assessment will be explored, along with current issues and developments. The topic will build upon students' knowledge of learning, curriculum and pedagogy. Methods of improving learning through assessment will be investigated. Assessment literacy is used as a framework for understanding assessment purposes, principles and practices. The topic integrates evidence-based approaches to assessment with standards for professional practice through an exploration of recent literature and an examination of current curricula and standards.
