Aims

On completion of this topic, students are expected to be able to:

  1. Understand of the open research issues in a given area of investigation
  2. Further develop analytical and critical thinking skills appropriate to research
  3. Further develop technical skills relevant to the given area of investigation
  4. Further develop writing and communication skills through the writing of reports and the delivery of presentations related to the project
  5. Develop project management skills appropriate to research-oriented investigation

Learning outcomes

On completion of this topic you will be expected to be able to:

Demonstrate an understanding of research principles, together with an understanding of specialist knowledge and familiarity with recent developments for a particular area
2.
Critically review and consolidate existing knowledge, analyse alternatives, and synthesise established approaches to solve complex problems in a particular problem domain
3.
Develop and effectively deliver clear and coherent presentations to an audience of peers
4.
Write professional reports that convey technical ideas and solutions accurately and completely
5.
Exercise initiative and judgement in adapting established solutions to diverse contexts within broadly defined parameters
