Aims
All civil engineers must understand the issues and solutions pertaining to the efficient development of transport infrastructure of all forms. The aim of this topic is to present an introduction to transport systems and to urban, outback and maritime transport planning.
Learning outcomes
On completion of this topic you will be expected to be able to:

Understand and propose solutions for the choice of various forms of transport problem
2.
Understand the relationship between freight transport and land-use
3.
Understand the basic concepts of transportation modelling and design
4.
Design feasible transport schemes using a variety of modes of transport
5.
Evaluate transportation projects in terms of their capacity, cost, environmental impact and equity
6.
Apply and analyse road plans, long-sections and cross-sections
