Aims
This topic aims to provide students with an understanding of fracture, fatigue and creep behaviour of engineering materials and their analysis.
Learning outcomes
On completion of this topic you will be expected to be able to:
1.
Understand mechanical behaviour of materials under loading
2.
Apply linear elastic fracture mechanics to analyse the behaviour of materials with cracks
3.
Understand different responses from materials based on their mechanical properties and type of failure
4.
Understand and apply stress and strain based approaches to fatigue analysis in materials
5.
Understand and analyse fatigue crack growth and creep behaviour in materials
6.
Practise creep, fracture and fatigue testing of materials
