Aims

This topic aims to introduce students to outdoor pursuits and outdoor adventure activities as a means of recreation and physical activity. Students will be provided with the opportunity to apply:

  • Basic planning and preparation for personal safety when participating in outdoor activities and adventures for up to a day
  • Safe operating and participation procedures when participating in outdoor adventure and recreation
  • Ethical behaviours when participating in outdoor activities in natural environments

Learning outcomes

On completion of this topic you will be expected to be able to:

Safely plan for participation in a range of outdoor activities with an awareness of the impact of personal, environmental and equipment influences
2.
Apply safe participation techniques prior to, during and concluding engagement in outdoor activities
3.
Demonstrate knowledge of ethical and cultural considerations for engaging with outdoor environments
4.
Analyse the impacts of participating in outdoor activities for recreation on self and others
5.
Demonstrate knowledge of personal responsibilities and obligations when participating in outdoor activities for recreation
