Students will undertake structured research consisting of a novel research project under the supervision of an academic staff member, culminating in the submission of a thesis as per the HDR Policy.

At the end of this topic students are expected to have specialised knowledge and research skills related to the area of their chosen research field.
Learning outcomes
On completion of this topic you will be expected to be able to:

Independently demonstrate evidence of an original investigation or testing of ideas and competence in independent research or experimentation
2.
Demonstrate both by their application and review of the literature a thorough understanding of chosen methodological practices
3.
Research and apply critical analysis of source material to experimental results (where appropriate), and published works
4.
Interpret and transmit knowledge through the presentation of well written work
