Aims

This topic aims to:

  • Provide cultural training, relative to either the study of French, Indonesian, Italian, Modern Greek or Spanish
  • Expose students to a body of knowledge relative to linguistic or cultural aspects of language studies
  • Train students to form broad conceptual understandings while gaining in-depth of knowledge of socio-cultural aspects of language studies, through coursework or through a supervised study project
  • Develop students' analytical and critical skills through the production of a detailed report on a defined area of cultural studies

Learning outcomes

On completion of this topic you will be expected to be able to:
1.
Have gained broad knowledge of linguistic or socio-cultural aspects of language studies, relative to French, Indonesian, Italian, Modern Greek, or Spanish, according to the area of specialisation chosen
2.
Show critical understanding of linguistic and/or socio-cultural issues and principles underpinning the chosen area of language or cultural studies, and knowledge of current issues therein
3.
Demonstrate reporting skills relative to a defined area of language or cultural studies
