Overview

This topic covers a range of legal systems govern the rights conferred in relation to innovation and intellectual effort, and in particular with the laws relating to confidential information, copyright, designs, patents, passing off, unfair trading and trade marks.

Aims

This topic aims to:

  • Enable students to apply laws relating to intellectual property, focussing in particular on the protection of confidentiality, copyright, moral rights, designs, inventions, business reputation and trade marks;
  • Develop student capacity to critique the social and economic context in which the law operates; and
  • Develop research and communication skills
