Overview

This topic introduces students to the potential challenges posed by technology in an access to justice context. Students will be engaged by real-world clients to use technology to solve a legal problem. Students will be required to undertake advanced legal research to help solve this legal problem using technology. Students … For more content click the Read More button below. At the end of semester, students will be present their completed software application to clients and members of the legal profession for assessment.

Aims

This topic aims to:

  • Provide students with an understanding of how information technology can disrupt and transform access to justice
  • Expose students to the challenges associated with technology and access to justice, including but not limited to undertaking appropriate legal research; appropriate application design and expressing law in plain language
  • Provide students with project management and client communication skills

Learning outcomes

On completion of this topic you will be expected to be able to:
1.
Produce a functional legal software application that conforms with an industry client’s defined and documented requirements
2.
Undertake advanced legal research to solve a client’s problem
3.
Identify and articulate complex legal and technological issues with a focus on improving access to justice or increasing the efficiency of access to justice
4.
Communicate in ways that are effective, appropriate and persuasive for legal and non-legal audiences, and collaborate effectively
5.
Learn and work with a high level of autonomy, accountability and professionalism
