This topic aims to develop an ability to formulate and solve problems using the language of differential calculus, integral calculus, vectors and complex numbers. The topic also aims to develop students' mathematical maturity and problem-solving skills.

Students attempting this topic are advised that it assumes the knowledge taught in SACE Stage 2 Mathematics or equivalent, or in MATH1701 Algebra and Functions. For students without this knowledge, it is essential to enrol in MATH1701 and then progress to MATH1121 Mathematics 1A in a later semester.
