Aims

Student will develop their understanding of groupwork theories and practice as applied to counselling, demonstrating supportive interpersonal and group management skills to provide safe, boundaried therapeutic groups.

Learning outcomes

On completion of this topic you will be expected to be able to:
1.
Critically appraise contemporary groupwork theory, models and processes to decide on appropriate therapeutic process for different populations
2.
Facilitate a therapeutic group, demonstrating the competencies in guided discovery to elicit participant reflection, and insight
3.
Manage intra-group processes and support inter-personal and relational processes within groups
4.
Apply reflexivity, and self-awareness about the impact of group work therapy on self and participants
