Aims
The aim of this topic is to:
- Prepare students to grasp the concepts of Sustainable Development Goals, recognise the patterns of health and illness within the Australian context, and appreciate the influence of social and cultural determinants on health outcomes.
- Explore psychological and sociological perspectives to inform evidence-based nursing care
- Reflect on personal assumptions and biases and recognise personal strengths to develop and define caring behaviours
Learning outcomes
On completion of this topic you will be expected to be able to:

Examine the impact of the Sustainable Development Goals, and Social Determinants of Health, in the context of local, national, and global health priorities, considering both Indigenous and non-Indigenous populations
2.
Determine psychological, sociological and lifespan factors that influence a person’s experience of health issues and contexts
3.
Discuss psychological and sociological perspectives to inform the fundamentals of care
4.
Examine how psychosocial perspectives of health assist people to make sense of their own beliefs and values
