Aims
This topic aims to:
- Introduce the student to the complex environment of pre-hospital care and the practice of a paramedic
- Emphasise the importance of work practices, where these practices are derived and how to apply the practices in a safe manner
- Emphasise the skills of communication with patients and other health care professionals
Learning outcomes
On completion of this topic you will be expected to be able to:
1.
Demonstrate appropriate professional behaviours, including working in a culturally safe manner, consistent with university policy and expectation of paramedicine profession
2.
Apply safe work practices to maintain and enhance the safety and welfare of self, the patient and others whilst participating in contemporary paramedicine practice, including responding to occupational violence, manual handling, and infection prevention and control
3.
Demonstrate safe and effective practice in a number of clinical skills at a foundational paramedic level
4.
Demonstrate safe and effective dynamic patient assessments to identify a patient in cardiac arrest and recognise and consider reversible causes of cardiac arrest
5.
Demonstrate competency in the safe and effective management and treatment of an adult patient in cardiac arrest, and the post-arrested patient, utilising evidence-based practice and high-performance CPR, at an Advanced Life Support - Level 1
6.
Develop reflexive practice skills to deliver culturally and clinically safe care to a patient suffering a cardiac arrest, and the post-arrested patient, at a foundational paramedic level
