Aims

This topic aims to:

  • Teach students how to integrate the scientist-practitioner model with concepts such as cultural responsivity, health equity, reflexivity, and ethical conduct when working within the mental health field.
  • Provide students with a basic understanding of the underlying causes and symptoms of a range of mental health disorders.
  • Consider how ethics, socio-cultural determinants of mental health, and historical factors can affect the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of mental health disorders.
  • Support the development of basic assessment, diagnosis and intervention skills through practical exercises and case studies.
  • Introduce emerging research and innovations within the mental health field, including digital health practice and co-design.
