Overview
There is often a gap between research as taught in research topics, and research in practice where there are substantial constraints to using traditional research techniques (e.g. numbers of participants, access to population appropriate assement tools, ability to capture shifting dynamics, need to be reflexive and collaborate with stakeholders). Aims
This topic aims to produce graduates that:
- Effectively engage with data and design research that produces useful and actionable outcomes
- Develop reflexive research practices that acknowledge power dynamics and positionality when working with communities and individuals
- Apply and interpret basic statistical approaches to small N research, using both qualitative and quantitative approaches
Learning outcomes
On completion of this topic you will be expected to be able to:
1.
Design and execute a research study that responds to an organisation/real-world problem that produces relevant and actionable outcomes that are underpinned by ethical and reflexive practices
2.
Effectively communicate a small-scale pilot, including the rationale and justification for the method, considerations when selecting the method, and the findings
3.
Evaluate the effectiveness and ethical considerations of a small-scale pilot or feasibility study, proposing improvements for future research or implementation
