Aims

This topic aims to:

  • Develop an understanding of the issues related to test selection, use, interpretation, acceptability and appropriateness
  • Develop practical skills in the administration, scoring and interpretation of standardised psychological tests
  • Develop skills in integrating assessment information and communicating results to diverse client groups

Learning outcomes

On completion of this topic you will be expected to be able to:

Explain the approaches to psychological assessment across the lifespan
2.
Evaluate the cultural, ethical and psychometric considerations associated with standardised assessments
3.
Apply a range of assessment tools and processes related to a wide range of psychological disorders, and including psychometric tests, structured or semi-structured interviews and behavioural observations
4.
Administer, score and interpret standardised assessments
5.
Accurately and appropriately communicate results of standardised assessments both verbally and in writing using culturally appropriate language
6.
Demonstrate ability to integrate, interpret and synthesise clinical psychological assessment data with the knowledge of psychopathology to inform case formulation, diagnosis and intervention
7.
Demonstrate and apply understanding of ethical practice, confidentiality, and professional conduct, drawing from relevant legislation, standards, codes and frameworks
