Aims

This topic aims to:

  • Introduce students to the process of adapting novels, novellas, short stories, stage plays, games, factual stories and graphic novels to the screen
  • Enable students to further develop character, plot, tone and structure in screen writing
  • Enable students to further develop their skills in preparing documentation for screen writing including synopsis, treatments, outlines, character breakdowns and scripts
  • Provide students with opportunities to collaborate creatively and problem solve with their peers
  • Enable students to use innovation and creativity in adapting existing stories to the screen

Learning outcomes

On completion of this topic you will be expected to be able to:
1.
Write screenplay adaptations of pre-existing stories, such as novels, novellas, short stories, stage plays, games, factual stories and graphic novels to the screen
2.
Develop character, plot, tone and structure for screenplays
3.
Deliver documentation for screen writing including synopsis, treatments, outlines, character breakdowns and scripts
4.
Work collaboratively with your peers to problem solve on creative works
5.
Demonstrate innovation and creativity in adapting existing works to the screen
