Aims

The topic aims to produce graduates that:

  • Examine evidence-based theories of mental health and wellbeing, distinguishing between approaches that support mental health versus those that only address mental illness
  • Can analyse complex dynamics that shape mental health and wellbeing in workplaces and comunities understanding the  interaction of person factors (e.g. biology, genetics, habits, thinking, needs), and organisational factors (e.g. workplace demands or resources, job design, social interactions, systems, culture)
  • Apply an understanding of mental health and wellbeing to evaluate and develop approaches to support mentally healthy workplaces or communities at both an interpersonal and broader strategic level
  • Develop ways of communicating principles of mental health and wellbeing to diverse audiences

Learning outcomes

On completion of this topic you will be expected to be able to:
1.
Evaluate example mental health strategies based on theory and evidence
2.
Modify mental health strategies to accommodate models of mental health knowledge of both person and environment factors that impact on mental health and wellbeing
3.
Communicate clearly to diverse audiences on the topic of mental health and wellbeing
4.
Analyse how both person factors and environmental factors impact on difficult interactions (between team members, customers, and leaders)
