Aims

The topic aims to produce graduates that:

  • Can determine their own roles and ethical responsibilities when it comes to supporting others within the landscape of mental health support in our workplace or community
  • Understand the importance of self-care, risk management, and boundary setting
  • Can employ techniques for managing other people's distress and models of trauma-informed care
  • Are aware of mental illness and warning signs for wellbeing decline
  • Are skilled in having coaching conversations to support people struggling with poor mental health or encourage growth in wellbeing

Learning outcomes

On completion of this topic you will be expected to be able to:

Evaluate the role and ethical responsibilities of key members within your team to show the landscape of mental health support in our workplace or community and relevant governing regulations
2.
Employ strategies of risk management and self-care that are essential in supporting others
3.
Examine barriers and facilitators of accessing mental health support for people within your organisation or community based on research evidence
4.
Demonstrate communication with those in need of support
