Aims
All civil engineers must understand the issues and solutions pertaining to the efficient development of transport infrastructure of all forms. The aim of this topic is to present an introduction to transport system components, theories, design and operation of different system elements for different modes of transport.
Learning outcomes
On completion of this topic you will be expected to be able to:
1.
Apply and analyse solutions for the choice of various forms of transport problem
2.
Apply the relationship between transport and land-use
3.
Analyse the basic concepts of transportation modelling and design
4.
Design feasible transport schemes using a variety of modes of transport
5.
Evaluate transportation projects in terms of their capacity, cost, environmental impact and equity
6.
Analyse and evaluate road plans, long-sections and cross-sections
7.
Create and optimise transport network schemes using the latest modelling software
