Aims
This topic aims to assist students through supervision in the undertaking of a piece of independent research in a relevant area of Social Work and to give students the opportunity to:
- Formulate and carry out an independent research project that will make an original contribution to an area of Social work
- Further develop their research and report writing skills
- Critically analyse and evaluate information and solve problems
- Analyse and evaluate data, and to write a thesis
- Work independently and take responsibility for implementing a research project
Learning outcomes
On completion of this topic you will be expected to be able to:
1.
Survey relevant literature in a field of study and demonstrate how their research fits into the field
2.
Conduct a literature review
3.
Prepare a research proposal, including (where relevant) adherence to ethical requirements
4.
Demonstrate conceptual and applied (where applicable) dimensions of research
5.
Conduct the collection and analysis of data in adherence with appropriate ethical protocols
6.
Demonstrate critical communication skills through extended and reasoned argument (both oral and written)
7.
Demonstrate a capacity for independent self-directed learning
8.
Produce a written thesis
