Aims

This topic aims to:

  • Introduce students to some of the complexities and requirements of professional archaeological practice by embedding them within an archaeology or cultural heritage management workplace
  • Offer students the opportunity to acquire additional training and experience in essential elements of the archaeology and cultural heritage management profession, including: field, laboratory and library/archival research; community liaison; data analysis and post-processing, and; project management and administration
  • Extend and give further meaning and relevance to students' classroom learning experience

Learning outcomes

On completion of this topic you will be expected to be able to:
1.
Appraise the professional relationships required of archaeologists and cultural heritage managers when working with stakeholders, including the general public, community organisations, and government and non-government organisations
2.
Evaluate the ethical, legislative and policy contexts and frameworks relevant to undertaking archaeology and cultural heritage management projects
3.
Determine the requirements for working in a team setting, and the professional and personal attributes necessary to operating successfully in the workplace

Assumed knowledge

Completion of 18 units of study or a Bachelor qualification (or above) in Archaeology.
