Aims

This topic introduces theoretical frameworks to optimise teaching and learning to improve learner outcomes. Participants will examine the concepts of feedback, feeding forward, and the importance of transparency and authenticity in assessment tasks and practices. In analysing the teaching and evaluation of specific clinical skills, they will critically consider the importance of the learner and consumer as key stakeholders in health professions education.

Learning outcomes

On completion of this topic you will be expected to be able to:

Demonstrate knowledge of key theories and frameworks underpinning learning and evaluation, and how these apply to practice of teaching clinical skills (evidence-informed)
2.
Engage in dialogue with other clinical disciplines to consider the application of theoretical frameworks in a range of healthcare contexts (Inter & intra-disciplinary focused)
3.
Critically analyse the teaching, learning, assessment, and feedback of clinical skills in specific health education contexts in accordance with professional guidelines (Reflexive; Impact focused)
4.
Critically reflect on their practice as an educator and healthcare professional in relation to teaching and learning, inclusivity, and equity (reflexive; equity oriented)
