Aims
This topic introduces students to communication skills in the context of allied health service provision. Students will learn and apply principles of effective therapeutic communication. They will develop interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with people across the lifespan and for a range of diverse groups. The topic will include knowledge and skills to effectively communicate with colleagues and consumers as well as group work, reflection, ethical communication and cultural safety.
Learning outcomes
On completion of this topic you will be expected to be able to:

Recognise their own communication skills using reflective processes

Demonstrate therapeutic communication skills to support clients across the lifespan with diverse needs using a range of communication techniques
3.
Demonstrate appropriate interprofessional communication strategies for team problem solving and conflict management
4.
Explain a relational approach to working with clients, community and colleagues
5.
Develop culturally responsible and ethical communication principles that are person centred and respectful of culture, self-identity, dignity, beliefs, and values
