Aims
This topic aims to prepares the nurse practitioner for their future role as a clinical and professional leader. Students examine the political, ethical, professional and legal aspects of their role. They examine the essential requirements of the continuous quality cycle and clinical governance. This topic is based in the requirements for endorsement as a Nurse Practitioner under the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Law Act (2009). This includes the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia Nurse Practitioner Standards for Practice.
Learning outcomes
On completion of this topic you will be expected to be able to:

Critique the socio-economic, geographical, and political factors that influence nurse practitioner service models
2.
Design strategies for delivering culturally responsive healthcare services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples
3.
Critically examine contemporary digital health strategies to improve information exchange, health service access and decision making within health care services
4.
Evaluate the influence that the advanced practice role has at the policy and systems level to facilitate the delivery of Fundamental Care
5.
Examine the Nurse practitioner standards for practice and the national prescribing competencies framework and how they relate to the advanced practice role and future scope of practice as an endorsed nurse practitioner
