Aims

Upon completion of this course, students should:

  • Understand the anatomy and physiology of the head, neck and brain
  • Understand the anatomy and physiology of the body systems that relate to communication and swallowing
  • Understand how disordered pathological processes contribute to communication and swallowing impairments

Learning outcomes

On completion of this topic you will be expected to be able to:

Explain the anatomical human development (including embryology and genetics), specifically the development of the head, neck and brain
2.
Identify and explain the head, neck and brain structures and function as they relate to communication and swallowing
3.
Explain the relevant risk factors and pathological processes related to anatomy and physiology and describe how these influence communication and swallowing
