Aims

The major in Applied Linguistics aims to:

  • Provide a major core of topics permitting specialization in a cohesive body of knowledge in the Applied Linguistics area
  • Provide students with a broad conceptual understanding of Applied Linguistics while gaining depth of knowledge of particular areas of Linguistics
  • Enable students to think critically with respect to Linguistics and Applied Linguistics issues
  • Empower students with the ability to apply their conceptual knowledge of Applied Linguistics to particular practical linguistic problems
  • Provide vocational knowledge and abilities relevant to the language professional
