Aims
The major in Applied Linguistics aims to:
- Provide a major core of topics permitting specialization in a cohesive body of knowledge in the Applied Linguistics area
- Provide students with a broad conceptual understanding of Applied Linguistics while gaining depth of knowledge of particular areas of Linguistics
- Enable students to think critically with respect to Linguistics and Applied Linguistics issues
- Empower students with the ability to apply their conceptual knowledge of Applied Linguistics to particular practical linguistic problems
- Provide vocational knowledge and abilities relevant to the language professional
Learning outcomes
On completion students will be able to:
1.
Demonstrate a broad knowledge of Applied Linguistics topics, especially in terms of contemporary issues of literacy and the diversity of languages and cultures in Australian society
2.
Demonstrate understanding of articulation and implementation of practice in a particular area of Applied Linguistics
3.
Demonstrate knowledge of the particular area relative to Australian and international contexts
4.
Apply the knowledge acquired in professional contexts
