To qualify for the Master of Public Administration, a student must complete 72 units with a grade of P or NGP or better in each topic, according to the program of study below.

Not all topics are necessarily available each year.

Upon completion of 18 or 36 units a student may choose to exit with a Graduate Certificate in Public Administration or a Graduate Diploma in Public Policy and Administration respectively, subject to meeting the program of study for that award.

1. This Program of Study serves as a suggested study plan.  When core topics are offered in both halves of the year, students may enrol in these topics in either half of the year as long as requisites are met.
2. With the permission of the Course Coordinator up to 9 units of 9XXX level topics that are appropriate to the student’s program of study may be selected from across the University where requisites are met, in substitution for up to 9 units of Option topics.
3. Students are only permitted to select one of the following research Option topics GOVT9006 Government Research Project (9 units); GOVT9005 Government Internship (13.5 units) or GOVT9007A-D Government Thesis (18 units).

Applicants must normally hold a bachelor degree or equivalent qualification from an approved tertiary institution.

Students who have completed a Graduate Certificate in Public Administration, a Graduate Certificate in Public Policy, a Graduate Certificate in International Relations, or an approved equivalent, but not an undergraduate degree, must also meet a GPA requirement.

However, the Dean (Education) may, under certain circumstances and subject to specific conditions, admit others who can show evidence of fitness for candidature.
