Aims

The course has been designed to prepare students to become computing professionals able to: 

  • Design, develop, install, execute and support applications, systems software and hardware products, particularly games, with a strong emphasis on human-computer interaction. This includes the entertainment aspects of games and the development of games that contribute to the advancement of society through application to areas such as healthcare, defence and business 
  • Solve complex problems through the use of information technology 
  • Design, manage and analyse complex data-rich environments 
  • Undertake a substantial research-oriented project 
  • Work effectively both as an individual and as part of a team 
  • Exhibit a strong, practical understanding of professional and ethical responsibilities 

The course provides experience of working in a team environment in industry. It also provides the foundations that will underpin ongoing professional development, preparing graduates for further study or for a career in an IT-related field or in other areas where the range of skills and knowledge acquired is needed or desirable. 

Learning outcomes

On completion of the course you will be able to:

Design and develop interactive, user centred, engaging and accessible games

Deliver creative digital game environments across multiple platforms using state-of-the-art technologies
3.
Analyse user problems and design appropriate and effective IT-based solutions
4.
Develop and evaluate IT solutions to problems drawing on knowledge and skills in networking, programming, security, database and web technologies, and which align with business needs and industry standards
5.
Understand and analyse human factors and apply ethical and professional practices
6.
Work collaboratively in a team and communicate effectively in a variety of contexts
7.
Plan and execute a research project, applying relevant methodologies and knowledge appropriate to postgraduate research or advanced industrial investigation

Student progression rules

Students achieving a GPA of at least 5 at the end of third year will be eligible to continue into the fourth year of the course. Students who do not meet the GPA requirements will be able to exit with the Bachelor of Information Technology (Game Development) on completion of 108 units according to the first three years of study in the degree.
