Overview

The Bachelor of Information Technology (Network and Cybersecurity Systems) (Honours) - 4 years provides education that addresses the design, development and management of secure networked systems. Graduates will build skills in implementing solutions that are driven by the protection of networked systems and the defence from malicious intrusion. It offers national best practise work experience and job placement, training you for the needs of the South Australian and Australian technology industry and public service sectors. It also includes research training and a thesis enabling students to progress to a PhD.

1. This Program of Study serves as a suggested study plan. When core topics are offered in both halves of the year, students may enrol in these topics in either half of the year as long as requisites are met

2. With the permission of the Course Coordinator and with the agreement of the industry partner, the practicum topics may be extended by six months by enrolling in the topic COMP3741 Extended Industry Experience. COMP3741 Extended Industry Experience does not attract fees or HECS payments. International students, please be aware that your student visa conditions may restrict you from undertaking COMP3741 within Australia. Please see the topic coordinator for further details

Aims

The course has been designed to prepare students to become computing professionals able to:

Solve specialist cybersecurity problems utilising practical networking and security knowledge
Implement industry best practices to prevent, address and respond to current and emerging cyber-security threats
Design, develop, install, execute and support secure applications, systems software and hardware products
Solve complex problems through the use of information technology
Design, manage and analyse complex data-rich environments
Undertake a substantial research-oriented project
Work effectively both as an individual and as part of a team
Exhibit a strong, practical understanding of professional and ethical responsibilities

The course provides experience of working in a team environment in industry. It also provides the foundations that will underpin ongoing professional development, preparing graduates for further study or for a career in an IT-related field or in other areas where the range of skills and knowledge acquired is needed or desirable.

Student progression rules

Students achieving a GPA of at least 5 in their last 36 units of study after completing 103.5 units of study will be eligible to continue into fourth year of the course. Students who do not meet the GPA requirement will be able to exit with Bachelor of Information Technology (Network and Cybersecurity Systems) on completion of 108 units according to the first three years of study in the degree.
