Aims
With the graduate qualities identified by the university in mind, the major seeks to produce graduate with the following knowledge, skills and values:
- A strong knowledge of relevant theory, pedagogical approaches and embodied ways of knowing that support learners to be physically educated
- A strong knowledge of research procedures in Physical Education to promote ongoing learning
- The ability to apply a range of teaching styles that will foster learners’ deep understanding of Physical Education by learning in, through and about movement
- The ability to enhance learners’ physical competencies to increase their confidence to move in ways that meaningfully increase their levels of active participation
- The ability to promote and build learner capacity for critical independent inquiry and learning in cooperation with others in Physical Education settings
- The ability to analyse and critically evaluate ideas to creatively solve problems in Physical Education settings that enhance the health and wellbeing of individuals and communities
- A commitment to valuing embodied knowledges that enhance the access that young people have to understanding their interactions with the world around them
- A commitment to enabling learners to enhance their own movement capabilities and engage with lifelong physical activities
Learning outcomes
On completion students will be able to:

Apply knowledge of the biophysical, sociological, and behavioural foundations of Physical Education to optimise individual potential for healthy, active communities
2.
Apply embodied pedagogies to enable students to learn meaningfully in, through and about movement
3.
Utilise a spectrum of teaching styles to encourage independent and critical learners who are physically educated and have the competence and confidence to engage with lifelong participation in physical activities
4.
Create safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environments to provide learning experiences that support lifelong health and physical activity
5.
Engage in ongoing development in the field and respond in an informed way to new or unfamiliar information
6.
Reflect on their practice and experiences to engage in a process of continual improvement
