Aims

The Honours Program in Indigenous and Australian Studies aims to build on the disciplinary and interdisciplinary knowledge and skills developed through the completion of a major in Indigenous and Australian Studies, develop an extended understanding of cultural and critical theory and its application to contemporary issues and debates in Indigenous and Australian culture and society, extend students' ability to think, speak and write about theories and issues in a critically-engaged, and ethically responsive manner, increase theoretical knowledge, research skills and applied skills required to develop appropriate depth of understanding of issues in a number of related specialisations in Australian Studies and provide students with the necessary knowledge, theoretical understanding and study skills to research and present, both orally and in writing, an extended piece of research.

Learning outcomes

On completion students will be able to:

Discuss cultural and critical theory and its application to contemporary issues and debates in Australian culture and society
2.
Critically evaluate ideas, concepts and approaches in research to a high level
3.
Defend their thorough understanding of the method and meaning of completing an extended piece of research, including ethical considerations of carrying out research
4.
Plan and complete research activities, manage time independently, and present research both orally and in writing
