Aims

The minor aims to enable students to:

  • Develop a thorough knowledge and understanding of cultures and societies across temporal and geographical contexts
  • Assess different perspectives on historical events and agents and examine how these perspectives contribute to historical and social discourse
  • Work independently and collaboratively to present a nuanced understanding of historical events and concepts in various written and oral forms
  • Establish a commitment to maintaining disciplinary ethical standards in research and reporting practices
  • Prioritise life-long learning, knowledge, and skills development to engage with advances in the graduate's chosen field

Learning outcomes

On completion students will be able to:

Explain the key features of, and the influence of major actors in, past societies selected for study
2.
Evaluate changes in the methods and models of historical interpretation
3.
Distinguish the discrete disciplinary boundaries of history
4.
Interpret a range of different sources and scholarship to create arguments in various written and oral forms
5.
Assess competing claims from within and outside the profession about historical actors, processes, and events
6.
Model a commitment to disciplinary ethical standards and to upholding inclusive and culturally sensitive research and reporting practices
